On Tuesday, July 22, 2025, the Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Hon. John Abdulai Jinapor, paid a working visit to Nuclear Power Ghana (NPG) as part of his familiarisation tour and engagements with agencies under the Ministry. The visit was to strengthen collaboration and support informed decision-making at the Ministry level.

The Minister and his team were received by the Executive Director of NPG, Dr. Stephen Yamoah, together with members of the management team. In a brief meeting, Dr. Yamoah updated the Minister on progress made toward the development of Ghana’s first nuclear power plant project. He outlined the implementation status of the two Framework Agreements signed in 2024, ongoing land acquisition processes for both the preferred and backup sites for the project, and strategic measures to meet project development timelines. He also highlighted efforts to establish corporations with advanced nuclear-operating countries and organisations to provide strategic and training support and build the capacity of personnel at NPG.

In his remarks, the Minister stressed the significance of the nuclear power programme as a reliable baseload option to drive Ghana’s industrialisation and economic growth. He reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to support the project’s development in line with international safety standards and regulatory requirements.

He further expressed the Ministry’s commitment to providing the needed logistical support to enable NPG to deliver on its mandate and ensure the realisation of Ghana’s nuclear energy ambitions.

Accompanying the Minister on the visit were the Chief Executive Officer of Bui Power Authority, Ing. Kow Eduakwa Sam, and Directors from the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition.
